Israel appears to have breached three of the five acts specified in the international genocide treaty, according to Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the state of human rights in Palestinian territory.
"The massive scope and intensity of Israel's attack on Gaza, along with the catastrophic living conditions it has caused, indicate a deliberate plan to physically eradicate the Palestinian people," the assessment stated.
The UN Human Rights Council appointed Albanese as an independent expert, but she does not represent the UN. Albanese stated that she had discovered "reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating the commission of... acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza has been met."
The following behaviors were included in the report "Anatomy of a Genocide": "Killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to the group's members; and deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the group's physical destruction in whole or in part."
Israel "utterly rejects the report," according to the country's diplomatic representation in Geneva.
The Human Rights Council is scheduled to hear Albanese's report on Tuesday. According to the study, Israel committed "genocidal acts" after making "statements of genocidal intent."
She claimed that "evacuation orders and safe zones have been used as genocidal tools to achieve ethnic cleansing" in reference to remarks made by certain high-ranking Israelis expressing a desire to forcibly uproot Palestinians and replace them with Israeli settlers.
