Israeli forces launch deadly operation at Al-Shifa Hospital

GAZA/TEL AVIV - Early on Monday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) surrounded the Al-Shifa medical complex, where over 30,000 people were said to be seeking shelter, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza. There were several casualties, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

According to the White House, President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke over the phone on Monday about the most recent events in Gaza. Following the call, the White House released a brief statement saying, "President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to discuss the latest developments in Israel and Gaza, including the situation in Rafah and efforts to surge humanitarian assistance to Gaza."
In recent weeks, at least 27 people—23 of them children—have passed away in northern Gaza from starvation or dehydration, according to the poverty organization Care. Doctors from a number of northern institutions believe that the actual figure is probably higher. A boy of about four months whose mother was killed, leaving him without milk when none was available to buy; an 18-year-old girl who was already experiencing epilepsy; and a boy of between ten and twelve who passed away last week during Ramadan were among those who recently received treatment for malnutrition from Dr. Eleiwa at al-Shifa hospital. Dr. Eleiwa stated, "She was already ill, her family didn't have any food, and none of her medications were available."
"In the end, she had very little flesh and bones—no fat at all." Meanwhile, Israel's military campaign in Gaza has transformed the region into the largest "open-air graveyard" in the world, according to EU foreign policy leader Josep Borrell, who made this announcement on Monday.
