Israel is waging war on the main hospitals in Gaza.

The largest hospital in the territory, Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, was surrounded by troops and tanks for a week. More recently, the Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis, the major city in the south, was also under siege.

Relief organizations are concerned about civilians getting caught up in the battle, despite Israel's claims that its operations are "precise" and that it has taken precautions to protect civilians.

During a crisis visit to the Middle East, UN chief Antonio Guterres begged for an end to the "non-stop nightmare" for the 2.4 million Palestinians stranded in Gaza's worst-ever situation.

The United States, Israel's principal ally, has also expressed growing alarm. A Rafah invasion would be “a huge mistake.”
32,333 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip, the majority of them were women and children, according to the health ministry. According to the government, another 72 persons were murdered in Gaza overnight by bombing and fighting.

According to the Hamas government press office, the Gaza Strip was subjected to nearly 50 airstrikes. The situation has gotten worse due to a lack of food and water, particularly in the northern part of Gaza where people—mostly women and children—were standing in line to fill buckets and jerrycans in Jabalia.
One worker, Bassam Mohammed al-Haou, remarked, "We don't even have food to give us the energy to go and collect the water— let alone the innocent children, women, and the elderly."
Palestinians residing in the vicinity of Al Shifa have claimed living in a horrible environment, with corpses lying in the streets, unrelenting bombing, and men being picked up, stripped down to their underwear, and interrogated.

As of the ninth day of the Al Shifa raid, the military claimed to have detained some 500 individuals. Israel has indicated that it will stay longer at Al Shifa, which troops also raided in November, by saying that the operation will last until the last militant is "in their hands."

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that Israeli forces had encircled all gates of Al Amal Hospital and were preventing hospital staff from leaving.

"Raids on several terrorist infrastructure sites in the area and located explosive devices, RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades), and military equipment," according to the military, were part of the Al Amal operation.
